BBT 10- Automobile Styles and Designs

Automobile Body Styles
Coupe- are often the sporty variants of saloon cars. They have doors reduced from 4 to 2, but the coupe body style varies from carmaker to carmaker, and now there are even four-door coupes like the Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class. The name ‘coupe' comes from the French verb ‘couper', which means ‘to cut'. An example of a two-door coupe is the Audi A5.                    www.netcarshow.com

Convertible- A convertible, or cabriolet, is a body style with a foldable or retractable roof. These cars often have canvas or vinyl roofs, but nowadays these are made of plastic, aluminium or steel. Convertibles are usually two-door cars.                                                          www.edmunds.com

Sedan- also known as a saloon and is a passenger car with a bonnet covering the engine and a separate boot for luggage at the rear. The style of this car is one of the most popular body styles of cars today.  It seats least four people. A sedan design is also known as a ‘three-box' design.
Hatchback-  is a car with a sloping back and a hinged rear door that opens upwards. These cars are different than SUVs, MPVs or vans because they are usually much more compact. They can usually have seat four-five people is almost always a tight squeeze. An example of a hatchback is the Maruti Suzuki Swift.                                                                                                            www.kbb.com

Estate- known as station wagons, have a body style almost like the Sedan. However it has an extended rear luggage or cargo area. This vehicle have a two-box design with the passenger compartment extending over where the boot would have been in a saloon. They are usually based on sedans, often share the same frontal design. Estates are not very common in India, but an example is the Skoda Octavia Combi.                                                                            www.which.co.uk

Automobile

  • Takes about 3 years and they start off with the sketching phase.
  • The Design is called problem solving because they have a criteria they have to follow so that they can come up with something that is aesthetically pleasing.
  • The feasibility stage is taking the sketches that they like and evolving them into something that maintains the theme.
  • Designing an automobile would not interest me because i am not goo in designing things at all.

BBT 10- Careers and Certification in the Automotive Industry

    Careers in the Automotive Industry
    1. High-tech systems unheard of 30 years ago are now standard equipment on much of the nation’s fleet of vehicles: stability and traction control systems, adaptive cruise control and variable valve timing, just to name a few.
    2. Given the advance of technology and a richly varied automotive industry that offers an array of positions and career paths, the future is bright for talented young persons with math, science, communications and technical skills.
    3.  High-tech careers that require four, six, or even eight years of college, automotive technology careers can begin after just two years of education.
    4. The U.S. Dept. of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics forecasts automotive repair and maintenance industry is expected to add 237,500 new jobs and have a 30 percent growth rate through 2020.
    5.  And with the outsourcing of jobs picking up steam, first manufacturing jobs, now computer programming, customer call-center work, and accounting services all going overseas, it should be comforting to know that automotive service and repair is fairly immune to such moves.
    6. 4 automotive positions that people can do are: Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) conducts the only nationally recognized certification program for automotive service professionals. ASE offers a wide range of tests that serve virtually every segment of the automotive service arena.

After watching the video I think that it would be kind of interesting if your enjoyed that stuff, like for an example, guys that like to work on cars or anything with a motor. You also would have to have a good memory to, because at all times you have to know where to put what and where to plug stuff. With this job, its fun to watch people that know what to do because everything go perfect and the thing they fixed works. What I found interesting that they can remember how to wire and put together so many different things and still like to do it. It is a life long learning process because you can never know too much and you always can learn ore on what your doing. Some characteristics that a automotive technician should have are good people skills and problem solving skills!

    Certification in the Automotive Industry
NATEF- was founded in as an independent, non-profit organization the mission of theNational Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (N A T E F) is to improve the quality of automotive technician training programs nationwide at secondary and post-secondary, public and proprietary schools.
SGS-  manages your supply chain and provides safe and reliable vehicles. It also improves quality, efficiency and safety and reduces environmental impact.

ASE-  National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence. As of 1972 our independent non-profit organization has worked to improve the quality of vehicle repair and service by testing and certifying automotive professionals.

    Jobs in the Automotive Industry
Growing up with all guy neighbours and cousins, you get to know your way around a car, what its like and how it runs. Also have a dad that loves to work on cars, trucks and basically anything with a motor, this stuff kind of has a interest to all this stuff. But I don't think I would have ever base my job on working on motors.

BBT 10- Emerging Technologies and Automobiles

    Technologies in Development
    • With technology today I think flying cars are less likely to happen, they need to fine a way for the car to be kind of like a air plane but its impossible in my defence.
    • I think the autonomous car has the biggest impact on us because its very useful for people that don't have their licences because of medical problems or people that are too young to have them also.
    •  I think the autonomous car is a part of our lives because cars are always improving and they all can do more and more things without a person having to do it for the car.
    • I think that it would keep everyone safe because the driver is aware what he or she is doing.
    • My thoughts on flying car is that I think they re not safe. You don't need a licences to fly but you need it for driving? No, that is not right! you should have to have the either way. Especially for flying in the air.
    • I think a self driving car would be awesome because for some people cant drive because of medical conditions, old people who are not able to drive and young people that are obviously too young to drive.
    Tech for Sakes of Tech
    • I found it surprising that people between the ages of 21-38 didn't care about smartphones in cars because smartphones are a big part of the world today. People my age depend on their phones way too much.
    • I don't think that other technologies mention in this article the danger of driving will I their phones, phone are the biggest distractions in the world today, they cause a lot of accidents.
    • Technology features are important when buying a care because people look at what the vehicle has to offer.
    • A blind spot warning would be great because then you can see in your blind spot and it would cause less accidents.
    • The drum brakes would be useless to tell a person because no one would really understand what they mean.

    5. When the Model T was finally sold it offered people the pleasure of travelling without relying on the thought of Rail Roads, the car was our ticket to personal freedom.
    The Ford Edsel

    BBT 10- PSA

Our awareness video adressed the issue of illegal downloads. Our target audiene was teens because downloading illegally is a very big problem within youth today. Teens download music, movies, games, TV shows, etc. illegally all the time, sometimes without even realizing. We chose our footage because they are all of technology, which makes the viewer think about what the video is saying. Our message discusses the consequences of what can happen when downloading illegally. I think it will be effective because it will make our audience think of what can happen if they illegally download something, and how serious it really is. Hugo and Daniel decided on the footage that we used for the video. Olivia did the voice recording that tells the message, and Laura put the footage together to create the video.

    BBT 10- How Computers Work

Central Processing Unit (CPU) or Processor is the electronic circuitry in a computer that carries out instructions for a computer program by performing the basic logical, control and input/output specified by the instructions. 2 manufacturers that make these are AMD and Intel.

Motherboard contains the connectors for connecting the original boards such as the memory, and all the controllers that are required to control standard peripheral devices and as the display screen, keyboard, and hard drive, etc. 2 manufacturers that make these are Acer and Asus.

A Power Supply Unit is the component that supplies power to the computer. The power supply then pulls the required amount of electricity and converts the AC(alternate current) current to the DC(direct current) current. 2 manufacturers that make these are Akasa and Antec.

Random Access Memory is mainly referred to the main memory, primary memory, or the system memory. It allows the information stored in the computer and be retrieved and stored whenever needed. 2 manufacturers that make these are Mushkin and OCZ.

The Hard Drive's responsibility is storage. Everything you keep saved on your computer is kept in the hard drive. Not only our documents, pictures, videos, but even your programs, preferences, and even your operating systems. Everything is stored in the hard drive. 2 manufacturers that make these are Seagate and Toshiba.

The Video Card connects the motherboard and the output image to display. They are also referred to as graphic cards. They include a memory, processing unit, and a connects to a display device. 2 manufacturers that make these are BFG and Biostar
A Sound Card is an expansion card that produces sound on a computer that can be heard through speakers or headphones. The computer doesn't need a sound device to function, however they are included on every machine in one form or another. Gravis and Conrad.

A Network Card is an electronic device that connects a computer and a network, usually a LAN. This is considered a piece of computer hardware and most of all computer have them today.  2 manufacturers that make these are 3com and Asus.

    BBt 10- Digital Literacy

BBT 10- Journal Entry #8: Digital Law

    •  In this unit I found most surprising is that there is so much material that can be copied for teaching needs.
    • I found it most confusing was that we were doing a project on copying and for our answers we had to copy most of them.

    • I think the copyright matters material is a good guide for students when they are unsure about copyright information.  I think it has a lot of helpful information that can be easily accessed.  It is just whether students would access it or not.
    • The website NeedHelpNow.com is also a very good help for students looking for information on cyber bulling.  It has a lot of important information that can help students during a bad situation.  It also, has a lot of sources on how to report the cyber bullying incident.  I just don't think it is know that well by many people so, it isn't as efficient as it could be!
    • I think the biggest issue for young people when it comes to copying is the copying in itself.  Copying is so easy to do now with all the technology.  Many students just don't have the work ethic or desire to finish assignments on their own.  Many students would much rather just take a paper offline and take the risk, rather than spend time doing it themselves.  Copying happens a lot now a days and it's a growing issue for young people!
    • I think the biggest issue for young people when it comes to cyber bullying is that many people don't report it.  It happens so often now a days with the technology we have and many people don't even consider themselves bullying or being bullied.  A lot of people don't know where or how to report these cyber bullying issues.  If the websites and places to report them got out there more, cyber bullying might be easier to catch and abolish!

BBT 10- Assignment #2: Cyberbullying (and Privacy)

    1. Non-Consensual Distribution of an Intimate Image: if someone has a sexual/intimate picture/video of you that was created in private circumstances, and that person knowingly posts it online or shares it with someone else knowing that you would not consent to that (or being reckless about whether you would consent to it), the person could be charged.

Voyeurism: secretly observing or recording a person who reasonably believes his/her actions are private and:
    who is in a place where the person might be expected to change or remove clothing (e.g. bedroom, bathroom, change room, cabin, tent);
who is all or partially naked or engaged in sexual activity at the time; or
where the recording is done for sexual reasons.

    2. Acts that make others feel unsafe.
Harassment: doing or saying something that makes someone else scared for themselves or someone else (e.g. making threats, stalking, repeatedly texting/emailing, constantly following).

Acts that hurt the reputation of another person.
Impersonation: pretending or claiming to be someone else (living or dead) to benefit yourself or someone else, to hurt the person you are pretending to be or to hurt another person.

    3.
Search online for the agency that is responsible for policing in your area.
Phone the detachment, let them know your age and tell them what has happened.
Go to www.cybertip.ca/report to tell us about your concern.

    4. You should always include your age. You should always also say if it is you in the picture or not. You should also let them know if you sent the picture or video to someone so it does not cause trouble. To deal with peers you should never message back to a mean message. You could also delete the bully from your social networks.

    5. What I found interesting about "Don't Let Others Write Your Story" is that everything they said was helpful, like sticking up for yourself.

    6. One way I could help promote the #changeyourstory is if they have a Facebook page I could share it.

    BBT 10- Assignment #1: Copyright and Copy-wrong

    1. The Copyright Act gives that it is not an infringement of copyright to deal with a work for the purposes of research. private study, criticism, review, news reporting, education, satire, and parody, provided the dealing is “fair” are also included in this.
    2.  Up to 10 per cent of a copyright-protected work, including a literary work, musical score, sound recording, and an audiovisual work.

    4. Any fee charged by the educational institution for communicating and/or copying pieces from a "copyrightprotected" work must be intended to cover only the costs of the institution, including other costs.
    5. Most teachers copy (or take any other necessary action) in order to show a work protected by copyright. This permits the use of whiteboards and similar tools, overhead projection using a device such as an LCD screen, overhead, opaque, or slide projector, and Smartboards provided the work is used for the purpose of education and training.
    6. No, educational institutions can not make a large-print book for a student with a perceptual disability without permission from the copyright owner

    7. Yes, for an example is the performance of a play in a drama class but you cant copy an entire musical score that is not in a "copyrightprotected" work containing other musical scores is not allowed. The Copyright Act permits educational institutions to perform music, whether recorded or live, without payment/permission from the owner of the copyright.
    8. You can use SOCAN and Re:Sound because they provide to licences to schools and school boards across Canada. Applicable rates can be found on the SOCAN Web site at www.socan.ca and on the Re:Sound Web site at www.resound.ca. When getting stuff off of this site, its allowing you to get music and sounds so its easier then being "copy righted"
    9. The 3 key questions are;  Was the music used on school premises?  If admission was controlled, was it free? Was the music use for a non-profit purpose?
    10. No one is allowed to copy right anything so yes, there are rules that apply and they are: It can only be used for non-commercial purposes. The original source must be mentioned, if it is reasonable to do so. The original work used to generate the content must have been acquired legally. The resulting user-generated content does not have a “substantial adverse effect” on the market for the original work.
    11. The Copyright Act doesnt allow showing an audiovisual work like DVD or video as long as the work is not an infringing copy or the person responsible for the showing has no reasonable grounds to believe it is an infringing copy. Teachers are allowed show audiovisual works purchased or rented from a retail store, a copy borrowed from the library, a copy borrowed from a friend, and a YouTube video also showing movies from subscription services.
    12. No, teachers are not allowed to copy an audiovisual work at home and then show it in the classroom. But teachers can show a legally obtained copy in the classroom.
    13. Owners of legal copies of computer programs can make a single reproduction of these programs because they made the program.

    15. Yes, any original work made by a student is all protected. The student or if the student is a minor, the student’s parent or legal guardian must authorize the further use of a student’s work, such as its use in a school publication, a teaching workshop, a student exemplar, or in a Web posting.

BBT 10- Assignment #2: Privacy Please

    • Digital textbooks should replace entirely paper textbooks by 2020 in New Brunswick.
     For:
    1. I think they should be replaced for online access just in case if someone leaves their textbook at school they can go online and get their information.

    3. They will save trees and paper, we can send our old textbooks to people in the world who don't have enough money to buy them for their school.
    Against:
    1. If we replace the textbooks with onlines ones, some people don't have the access to get to a computer so they cant use that.
    2. The site could crash and there would be no "textbooks" available
    3.  Someone could easily hack the site and change anything they wanted to that site and then we wouldnt learn the stuff we are suppose to.

    • Schools in 2020 should be closed and teachers and students should begin learning in virtual classrooms using digital technology at home.

BBT 10- Assignment #1: Open the Door to Ecuador

    1. The Ecuador government would like to became less dependent on natural resource extraction as a source of economic growth. Instead, they are seeking to create a digital- and knowledge-based economy.
    2. ICT sands for Information Communication Technology
    3.  Ecuador's key policy goals consist of domestic ICT labor force by making technological knowledge. And innovation available to marginalized segments of the population.
    4. Ever since 2008, the government has brought in 473 "infocentros" - public spaces that provide computer training and internet access to rural communities all around Ecuador. I think they would work in some parts of New Brunswick because some people don't have computers and they need a place to work.
    5. In March, the government of Yachay inaugurated the country's first planned city of nearly 17 square miles designed to become a hub for technological research and  also scientific infrastructure. The Yachay University, which is now Ecuador's first research technology institute. The university will offer degrees in the following areas: life sciences, information and communications technology, nanoscience, renewable energy and petro chemistry.
    6. I think their effort is working for them because they need to get advanced in order to get the education they wanted and also the technology. They are preparing for the future as well as current generation so they can too have a it. I think that New Brunswick should try to get internet access to people who want it.

BBT 10- Journal Entry #6: Digital Business

    • The most interesting thing about this unit is you find out all the stuff that happens with people and the internet.
    • Most of the information was easy to find because its all based on what we already know about sites and sources.
    • Yes, I sold an old formal dress on Facebook to one of the people on there. It was a positive experience because everything went good!
    • Two tips I think would be helpful when shopping online
    1. When buying online sometimes prices seem too good to be true so be careful of LARGE SHIPPING COSTS designed by the seller to get the real price through trickery. because people may not be aware of what the shipping cost may be, on top of their order.
    2. When buying using KIJIJI and other online service make sure buying is done in a PUBLIC PLACE and never send money via mail or other ways to the seller. because many people use online services like KIJIJI, and products on those websites may not always be real, it could be someone just looking for money.
      • I think the biggest issue among young people when it comes to onling shopping and/or selling, is that people don't realize how you have to check where and who you are getting your product from. If you don't check all the services, then your purchase may never come, or may come the completely wrong thing. Also when selling things online, you have to make sure you include all of the information needed.

    BBT 10- Assignment #2: PayPal

    1. PayPal seems to have a lot of safety because it has a lot of products trusting it with its products.
    2. It keeps us safe because it keeps all our information safe and no one can see our bank accounts and personal information.
    3. PayPal does charge the buyers because it charges the sellers, it adds a little bit on to their price and they take their profit off it when they sell it.
    4. When your product doesn't come, PayPal knows so it protects you by not giving your information to that store and your completely safe fro the hackers and the people that just want to steal your money
    5. If I owned a company and I needed a place to buy online stuff I would use PayPal because its reliable and people use it all the time.
    6. Thse two sites are basically the exact same thing. The only thing different about them is the site they are on. They are both reliable and people use them.

BBT 10- Assignment #1: Shopping Carts?

    1. People still shop in stores and malls because of the socializing concept of it. they like the idea of being out and the experience of it. Also, they shop in stores because they don't want to waiting for the product to be shipped in so they go straight to the store and buy it. When buying something at a you can try it on before you buy it, you have no disappointments when you bring it ho because you have already tried it on.
    2. Shopping online is a lot easier then going to a store, its less stress and you know what to look for, you can shop any where, any time because the 'store' your shopping from doesn't close because its online. If you live in a small are there isn't always the store you want so you have no choice but to shop online.
    3. If I ha the choice to shop online or go out to a store, I think I would go out and buy something just because then I can try the product in the store rather then waiting until I have it home there wouldn't be any disappointments. Also I like the shopping experience of going into stores. Shopping online is also very useful because if you don't have that store around here you cant just order it online.
    4. I think in 2050 shopping online will also still be used but people will still go into stores. In some cases you cant order everything offline and it comes to your door. Like food for example, it cant come in the mail, by the time we got the food that came in the mail it would be old and gross.
    5. This new thing they are focusing on is something that will probably stick in todays world. Everything is ordered and shipped to us, right to your door. This is not a small business change because its not just one place, its all over the world.
    6. Buy shopping online you can just sent the product back saying something was wrong with it and they will give you a new one.
