BBT 10- How Computers Work


Central Processing Unit (CPU) or Processor is the electronic circuitry in a computer that carries out instructions for a computer program by performing the basic logical, control and input/output specified by the instructions. 2 manufacturers that make these are AMD and Intel.



Motherboard contains the connectors for connecting the original boards such as the memory, and all the controllers that are required to control standard peripheral devices and as the display screen, keyboard, and hard drive, etc. 2 manufacturers that make these are Acer and Asus.


A Power Supply Unit is the component that supplies power to the computer. The power supply then pulls the required amount of electricity and converts the AC(alternate current) current to the DC(direct current) current. 2 manufacturers that make these are Akasa and Antec.

Random Access Memory is mainly referred to the main memory, primary memory, or the system memory. It allows the information stored in the computer and be retrieved and stored whenever needed. 2 manufacturers that make these are Mushkin and OCZ.

The Hard Drive's responsibility is storage. Everything you keep saved on your computer is kept in the hard drive. Not only our documents, pictures, videos, but even your programs, preferences, and even your operating systems. Everything is stored in the hard drive. 2 manufacturers that make these are Seagate and Toshiba.

The Video Card connects the motherboard and the output image to display. They are also referred to as graphic cards. They include a memory, processing unit, and a connects to a display device. 2 manufacturers that make these are BFG and Biostar
A Sound Card is an expansion card that produces sound on a computer that can be heard through speakers or headphones. The computer doesn't need a sound device to function, however they are included on every machine in one form or another. Gravis and Conrad.

A Network Card is an electronic device that connects a computer and a network, usually a LAN. This is considered a piece of computer hardware and most of all computer have them today.  2 manufacturers that make these are 3com and Asus.
